What do you think of when you hear the words "Communion of Saints"? Perhaps your mind immediately flies to one of the many saints in heaven, and you think, "I could never be that." Does it surprise you to find out that you are part of the Communion of Saints?
"For he commands his angels with regard to you, to guard you wherever you go" (Ps. 91:11). How often does it occur to you that you are never alone? Yes, God is everywhere and always present with us, but He has given us someone else to be with us all the time: our guardian angels. The Diocese of Gary is dedicated to the guardian angels. So for us, the Feast of the Guardian Angels (October 2) is a special day.
Solemnities are the most important celebrations of the Church. The Solemnity of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated on the Friday after Corpus Christi each year. This beautiful devotion focuses on the wounds of Christ, which are open demonstrations of His great love for us. Although it became officially celebrated in the church in 1873 when approved by Pope Pius IX, the history of the devotion to the Sacred Heart goes back even further.
