The Heart of our Parish Family: Being Christ for Others

4/21/2021

What is at the heart of our parish family?  What is important?  How do we grow closer as a community of faith? How do we follow Christ in our daily lives?  Join us for a look at what is at the heart of LaPorte Catholic Church.
Being Catholic means more than just coming to Mass every Sunday.  It means bringing our faith into every moment of our day, into all our activities and to all the people we meet.  Part of any parish is the numerous volunteer opportunities presented to its people.  Volunteering can take many different shapes and forms, but at the heart of any volunteer opportunity is the chance to be Christ for someone else.  We get to be Christ and see Christ in those we minister to.  "Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25: 40).
There are many volunteer opportunities at LaPorte Catholic Church.  Please explore our Parish Ministries pages:   https://www.catholiclaporte.org/parish-ministries.html

The Heart of our Parish Family, Part Two: Community

What is at the heart of our parish family?  What is important?  How do we grow closer as a community of faith? How do we follow Christ in our daily lives?  Join us for a look at what is at the heart of LaPorte Catholic Church.
In part two of this series, we look at the importance of a parish community.  Christ said, "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20)."  As part of Christ's Mystical Body, we are part of a worldwide family of believers.  Our universal Church family is most tangibly present to us in our own parish community, where our diversity and differences enhance the beauty of our community.  Although everyone has their own unique background and past, we are united by prayer and the Sacraments.  Despite our differences we have a common faith in Jesus Christ.

In the video below, parishioners talk about how important the LaPorte Catholic Church parish community is to them.  Take a moment to listen to their beautiful testimonies.

The Heart of our Parish Family, Part One: The Mass

What is at the heart of our parish family?  What is important?  How do we grow closer as a community of faith? How do we follow Christ in our daily lives?  Join us for a look at what is at the heart of LaPorte Catholic Church.

Our first segment looks at the Mass and why it is so important.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church says: "The Eucharist is 'the source and summit of the Christian life'" (CCC 1324).  It is at the Mass that we get to partake in the Eucharist.   Watch the video below to hear from parishioners as they reflect on the importance of the Mass to them.  Thank God for the opportunity to go to Mass!
The current Mass schedule can be found on our homepage at:

Since Adam and Eve fell from Grace long ago, we have never been the same: we all suffer from the pain and sorrow of sin.  But we have been given a healing remedy:  the Sacrament of Confession.  Jesus gave us this wonderful gift to help heal our broken human nature and protect it against the wiles of sin and of the devil. We are in possession of a tremendous fortune with this wonderful Sacrament.  Will you but come and claim it?
