Position:  Bookkeeper
Holy Family Parish, LaPorte, IN


Terms:  Part-Time Employee (up to 29 hours/week)

Job Description
The Bookkeeper serves as a professional administrator and strategist at Holy Family Parish.  In this role, the Bookkeeper will work with the Pastor/Administrator to drive positive financial performance of the Parish in support of its mission.  The Bookkeeper assists with the stewardship of the financial resources of the Parish, in accordance with Diocesan policies and guidelines.

Responsibilities
FINANCIAL AND BOOKKEEPING MANAGEMENT
  • Prepares, evaluates, and communicates the Parish budget, annual reports, profit & loss, collection and deposit records, and general ledger.
  • Reviews all reports with the Pastor/Administrator
  • Administers parish salary and benefit policies
  • Maintains accurate filing of all financial and business records of the Parish
  • Acts as staff liaison to the Parish Finance Council and prepares regular reports for the Finance Council
  • Serves as Parish representative to banks, manages accounts, and identifies and resolves discrepancies.

Requirements
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in accounting, finance, or related business practices. Experience with a not-for-profit organization or in Church management is a plus.
  • Proficiency in working with QuickBooks or related bookkeeping software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrate understanding, respect and support of the Catholic Church’s teaching, mission, and values
  • Strong verbal and written communications, interpersonal, muti-tasking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Able to identify opportunities for improvement, evaluate issues and situations, and propose and implement solutions

About the Employer
Holy Family Parish is a new Catholic parish in LaPorte, Indiana, created by the union of the former Sacred Heart, St. Peter, and St. Joseph Parishes in 2021.  Current ministry focuses on uniting the three communities and building a vibrant parish identity focused on being a family and being disciples.
