Coordinator of Music, organist and choir director at St. Joseph and Sacred Heart Churches La Porte Catholic Church, La Porte, Indiana Born and raised in Elyria, Ohio, I began piano lessons when I was 5 and studied flute from the age of 12. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from Northwestern University in 1972. I received a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies with concentration in Music at Valparaiso University in 1986. I taught elementary music and middle school choir and general music for La Porte Community School Corporation from 1979-2014. I taught music for grades Pre-K-8 at Renaissance Academy from 2015-2019. I taught the “Teaching Music in the Elementary School” course at Purdue University North Central from 1992-1998. I was church organist/choir director at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception in Michigan City from 1989-1994. I have been church organist/choir director at St. Joseph Church in La Porte since 1994. I am presently also church organist/choir director at Sacred Heart Church and coordinator of music for both churches as well as for the combined choir events and bilingual liturgies. I have 4 children, 3 stepchildren, 10 grandchildren and an amazing husband who recently joined the choir! Our retirement years are filled with visits to and from our children and grandchildren, who live in multiple places in the U.S. and Canada. I love music, and I love playing the organ/piano at Mass. I especially love working with all the talented cantors, choir members, and musicians, and I love playing with the Hispanic choirs for the bilingual liturgies for La Porte churches. I am happy to be a part of the La Porte Catholic Church staff, and to participate in the music and worship experiences which we share with our faithful parishioners. |
